Title: Electronic Things!
Post by: Marco277 on May 21, 2013, 01:30:58 PM
I love sandbox electronics!

But not those note block electronics or cannon electronics, the COMPUTER electronics. Making NOT gates, AND gates, calculators and password locks.

I want to start a topic dedicated to making things to aid people in making computers and stuff in The Sandbox.

I have made a NOT gate and AND gate so far in the game, and using them, a password lock simmilar to those in Minecraft.

Any electronic creations you guys have?

Got any examples of what you're talking about? It sounds interesting but I don't understand as I'm not an electrician of any kind.

Electronics in this game are possible though kinda tricky.  The game uses this algorithm:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireworld

this is the best page on how to make circuits in it:
http://karlscherer.com/Wireworld.html

Right now the best thing I have isnt worth showing- it's just a ton of gates.
Also... I had an idea for a push button since they dont have one...
Take some walls and make a square.  Sorround those 'buttons' with blackhole... and also most of the inside.
Then put a water sensor and black hole inside the button.
Now all you have to do to 'push the button' is poor water and it will immediately be drained away.  If you structure it right it is easy to get away with sending a single electro.
I dont really understand how to do the timings yet.

The sandbox is a bit limited when it comes to space too... I'd be surprised if you could do anything all that complicated. Thats why I am here... going to make a suggestions thread.

I have now developed an AND and XOR gate. These were made using the NOT gate I developed originally.

I need to try and find a way to show the structure of the gates. So far, the basic NOT gate is 5 by 6 pixels big. Being barely small enough to use properly, I made a half-adder with some XOR's and AND's.

Should I take a screenshot of the gates of my iPad or something?
Or just draw up a diagram on paint?

I'll try and get the designs out somehow.

I once tried making a full adder, but there was not enough space on the map. Maybe a new feature of the game being bigger worlds, eh?
