Knytt Stories

If you enjoy creative games like The Sandbox and Minecraft I really think you should give Knytt Stories a try :)

Many of you have probably heard of it before, but to everyone else, Knytt Stories is part of a series of indie games that began with the game Knytt back in 2006. Knytt is a Swedish word that roughly translates into "little creature" and that is also exactly what you play as in the original game. The Knytt-games are a bunch of very atmospheric platformers that revolves around mood, exploration and feeling rather then action. They are all created by Swedish game developer Nifflas (Nicklas Nygren).

Knytt Stories differs from the original Knytt in many ways. You can think of it as a 2D game engine with a quite powerful level editor. Play through the included adventures to learn how to play the game and what features you can use to create your own levels, complete with story, events, powerups, various types of tiles (with unique features, almost like the Elements in The Sandbox) a big library of music, sounds and ready made tile sets, characters, NPCs, weather etc. You can also create your very own tile sets in Photoshop (or similar applicaton) and load them into the game.

Check out more info, screens, visit the forum and download the game (it's free) from Nifflas webpage here: http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=Knytt+Stories
